Merry Widow Glamour Nouveau L3035 in Peach by What Katie Did

Cinch, Support and Accentuate: you can have it all with our 1950s Merry Widow Corset. It’s designed to cinch your waist, support your breasts and hold up your stockings.

Merry Widow Basques were originally designed by Warners and throughout the 1950s the Merry Widow was the lingerie item of choice when it came to strapless and off-the-shoulder dresses.

Our Glamour Merry Widow combines traditional vintage features, such as an internal elastic waist tape to cinch and spiral steel boning, alongside a few little improvements. Both the shoulder and 6 metal clip suspenders are detachable to make them extremely versatile. Plus, our Merry Widow has a front hook and eye fastening which makes it a lot easier than the original to put on.

The Merry Widow Corset is primarily sized by bra size but your body measurements need to be considered too so you might need to sister size. Bra sizes roughly co-ordinate with the following WKD dress sizes:

32" - WKD dress size UK 10 / US 6

34" - WKD dress size UK 12 / US 8

36" - WKD dress size UK 14 / US 10

38" - WKD dress size UK 16 / US 12

The length of our Merry Widow is approximately 9.5” / 24 cm long from the bottom of the cup (under bust) to bottom and 14” / 35.5 cm long at the back-centre.

The satin is 100% polyester while the power mesh wings are 88% polyamide, 12% spandex. The bottom half of the cups are lined with 3mm foam. Our Glamour lingerie is made ethically in our main factory in India.

Why You’ll Love It:

It wasn't until the 1950s that bare shoulders were fashionable. This decade saw strapless dresses, spaghetti strap dresses and halter neck dresses all become fashionable. Great news for those who could afford couture (which incorporated inbuilt corsetry) or the young and flat chested, but what about the rest of us?

The Merry Widow was the answer. This garment was designed to cinch your waist, support your breasts and hold up your stockings while remaining invisible under the new necklines.

Our Glamour Nouveau Merry Widow takes things one stage further. We've made the bra straps detachable as well as the suspenders. You can wear it under a light cotton sundress, or an ornate evening gown: the choice is yours!

9 months of development and countless samples went into producing our Glamour Nouveau Merry Widow. Strapless basques are notorious for fit issues as they often feature a low back which means without the support of straps, or bra band, things get very tricky!

Our Merry Widow features a higher back; it should sit at the same level as your standard bra. This may make it unsuitable for low backed dresses but we decided fit was more important!
